Last night I unfortunately compressed my c: drive to save space. On reboot I get 'bootmgr is compressed, press ctrl-alt-del to restart.' I have tried every fix listed on this forum and every fix I can find on the internet. I've tried using the Windows 7 install disc in repair mode. It tells me the recovery disc doesn't match my version of Windows which makes no sense since it is the disc I installed from (albeit I've obviously done updates via Windows Update since then). So this does nothing. I've tried browsing the hard disks via 'Load Drivers' and unchecking the 'compress drive to save space' on my c: drive properties. Microsoft money windows 7.
It is unchecked and seemed to take its time doing so, but on reboot - same error. I use fixmbr, fixboot, rebuild, bcd, etc, etc, from the command prompt. It always tells me is was successful, then on reboot I get the bootmgr is compressed error again.
I've tried 'expand temp bootmgr' and it tells me a file by that name already exists. Obviously, since I can see my all my hard drive partitions and all their files via the 'Find Drivers' workaround my files and install or Windows are intact.
But I can't get the boot files to just boot Windows. Very frustrated at this point.
